Homework due on Monday

Please be sure to read Chapter 6 & 7 in the book

Please go through all the materials linked in the posting titled The best camera is the one that you have with you.

There is a good chance that you will have a quiz over these materials in addition to material recently covered during lectures.

You have 5 images due at the beginning of class. These are to be taken with your cell phone and edited using any software you like (excluding any Adobe programs). Go crazy with these images. We will critique them on Monday. I am looking forward to what you come up with.

Mobile editing for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch

Photoshop Express (often called Photoshop Mobile) - yes, I know it is an Adobe product...

Photoforge - most powerful app out there

Layers - While billed as a natural media application, it support layers and the importation of of your photos so you can use it to make photo composites and photo based art. It supports the exportation of layered PSD files.

Online photo editors and Free photo editors

Online Photo Editors

If you don't have a copy of Photoshop, fear not, you can likely do everything you need to do with/to an image using a free online photo/image editing application. I have been watching online image editing programs develop for awhile now. I have utilized them a number of times for classes and person use. I am truly amazed at their capabilities.By the way, these programs are particularly sweet if you are using a netbook with limited memory and processing power.

Aviary

Pixlr - an online image editor with three different editors. One offers Instagram like effects, one is a simple, intuitive editor, and the most powerful one emulates Photoshop's interface

flauntR

Photoshop Express

FotoFlexer

TiltShift Maker - free online application to give your photos a faux tilt/shift look.

Some of them such as Aviary have a number of tutorials available. Give them a try, you will be amazed at how well the work!

Spherical fisheye lens and special software that can be used to create 360 degree panoramas. Be sure to check out the immersive panorama samples at the bottom of the screen.

Jelly Lens - a manufacturer of cell phone accessory lenses. They have a surprisingly large variety.

Review of macro lens for HTC phone, but applicable to all phones. Includes links to stores which sale such lenses.

Nice examples of photos taken with fisheye, macro, and wide angle accessory lenses.

Attendance

Hello all,

Just a quick reminder about attendance. As explained during the first day of class and outlined clearly int he syllabus, you grade will go down a fractional letter grade for each absence over 3. So, if you miss 4 classes and your work warranted a B-, your final grade would be a C+. There are a number of students who have already missed more than 4 classes. Also, many of you are arriving to class consistently late. I can understand being late once in awhile, but being late every class is not acceptable.

This car is bright red with zebra stripe seats and steering wheel cover. With lots of stuff hanging from the rear view mirror.
This is possibly the cleanest backseat of a car I have ever seen. Not one thing was sitting around in it..

Jenna

This is interesting because whenever I leave something of any sort in the back of my car it either gets broken into or just completely stolen in general. This guy left a hard drive in his backseat! I guess he's lucky to have his car survive the night!

Next week- Critique on Wednesday

Monday is a day for you to edit your Secret series. Wednesday, we will be having a critique on the project. You will then have the weekend to make any changes to it. The series is due on disk on Monday the 25th.
I think that most of you are realizing that printing is a more nuanced process than you may have anticipated. If you calibrate your monitor, then we can put the printer profile on your machine so that you can softproof on your computer prior to sitting down to print. This will greatly speed up the printing process.

Daily Self Portraits

I have a suggestion. I was thinking that if you took to uploading your daily self portraits to your Facebook account each day, maybe evening making it your profile picture, you would likely put more energy into the project and keep up with it. Just a suggestion.
